Your 2021 Spring Cleaning Check List

It’s that wonderful time of year again where everyone is pulling on their rubber gloves and taking off a weekend to get down and dirty for some spring cleaning. Vacuuming and dusting in those hard to reach spaces are typical for these kinds of cleaning sessions, and perhaps you might even clean under your bed. But what are some things you can do to get to the bottom of the dirt and clutter and ensure that your home is clean, healthy and safe for the year to come? Read on to find out.

Pesky Pests

Deep cleaning plays a very important role in keeping household pests at bay. While some common pests might be simply annoying or icky, certain creatures can actually pose a threat to the health of your household which makes it extra important to manage the problem. If you suspect you do have a pest problem, you should contact a good Pest Control company before you even get started with your spring cleaning.

Once you know the problem has been dealt with, you can minimize and prevent further issues by making sure that your garden is well maintained and your gutters and drains are kept clean at all times, being vigilant about taking your garbage out regularly and keeping the lid shut at all times, keeping all your food well sealed and reducing moisture in your home wherever possible (make sure you air out your bathrooms).

Go Deep

When you’re spring cleaning, it’s really time to get down and dirty and that means cleaning in places that might not be the most pleasant to deal with. You’re going to specifically want to be on the lookout for mould, and this means cleaning in your bathtub and shower, drains and around all your pipes. There might be hidden mould in your home too, such as behind drywall. It’ll be harder to find in these cases, but it is important to be on the lookout since mould can be toxic and harmful to your family.

Hidden Treasure

Every now and then, it’s a good idea to go through your pantry and take serious stock of what does and doesn’t need to be in there. Oftentimes, boxes and packets of food get shoved so far back that we forget it’s even there and it’s important to clear that out. While you’re at it, take a look at the expiry date on all your food to make sure you’re always consuming food safely.

When it comes to cleaning out cupboards, your closet is another good one to tackle during a big spring clean. Take a look at what you really wear and donate or sell the items that aren’t serving you anymore. This can help reduce clutter and make it easier to keep even a small home neat, organised and clutter-free year-round. You can repeat this process for any cupboards, drawers or storage units throughout your house – you’ll be surprised by what you might find to either put to good use or donate to someone else in need.
